Welcome to Kookini ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
Information Stored Locally
Kookini stores all your recipe data, meal plans, and shopping lists locally on your device. This includes:
- Recipes you create or import
- Meal plans you create
- Shopping lists you create or import from meal plans
- App preferences and settings
Recipe data stays on your device by default. It is only transmitted when you use AI import features (see below) or explicitly share/export it.
Information Processed by AI
When you use our AI-powered recipe import features (internet required):
- URL Import: The recipe URL and page content are sent to our AI service for parsing.
- Photo Import: Text is recognized on your device (OCR). The recognized text is sent to our AI service for parsing. If OCR parsing fails, the photo may be sent for vision-based parsing. Images are not stored on our servers after processing.
- Voice Import: Audio is transcribed on your device using speech recognition. The transcript text is sent to our AI service for parsing. Audio is not sent to our servers.
- Premium Subscription: When you purchase or restore Premium, Apple/Google provide a signed transaction or receipt. We send this verification payload to our server (
api.kookini.app) only to confirm your subscription status and expiration. We do not store payment card details.
Automatically Collected Information
We do not automatically collect any personal information, analytics, or usage data.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Provide and maintain the Kookini app
- Process your recipe imports using AI technology
- Generate meal plans and shopping lists based on your recipes
- Verify Premium subscription status with Apple/Google via our secure API
- Improve app functionality and user experience
Data Storage and Security
Your recipe data is stored locally on your device using SQLite database. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All local data is stored in your device's secure storage area
- AI processing uses encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- Subscription verification payloads are processed over HTTPS and are not retained after validation
- Recipe import content is not stored on our servers after AI processing
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services for AI processing:
- mimo AI: Used for parsing recipes from URLs, OCR text, voice transcripts, and (when needed) images. Data is processed according to their privacy policy and is not stored after processing.
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all your data (stored locally on your device)
- Delete your data at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the app
- Export your recipes and data
- Opt out of AI processing by not using the import features
Children's Privacy
Kookini does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
